Places to work & eat
Basic Foodie
Basic Foodie is a very welcoming, comfy cafe with inside as well as outside seating for you to work from. This artisan bakery specializes in high-quality freshly baked bread and sweets. We have tried everything morsel from the baguettes to Conchas (traditional Mexican sweet bread) and yes – it absolutely passed the Chew & Lush taste test!
If you are visiting before noon, we would highly recommend their “seasonal juice of the day” beverage and the Almond Butter Banana Toast (ask to replace the honey for agave to try the vegan version). For the extra work energy get yourself a cappuccino with soy milk. Their coffee is a blend from Chiapas and Pluma Oaxaca & highly delicious.
After 1:30 pm, the cafe is perfect for working on projects that need intense focus in a cozy atmosphere. Our late lunch favorite eats are the Mexican Happy Hippie Molletes.

Ressio CC
This new little Neighborhood Café in Playa is the place to be! Their cozy garden with lots of tropical plants and bright yellow interior design will want you to make this your permanent office to work from. Their service is outstanding and the WiFi connection is reliable. Although they do have “cool” shadow seatings, keep in mind that this is an outdoor place so A/C is not available.
Ressio CC has a wide range of vegan choices to feed you through your 9-5 grind. We recommend waffles with almonds and golden milk ice-cream with their specialty coffee from the Chiapas. Need something to spice up your workday? Try their Toast “Sikil Pak” that comes with unique Mayan Hummus (ask to replace cheese for the vegan version).
Location: 22nd Street between 25 and 30th Avenue
Peace & Bowl
Start your workday right by visiting the most popular vegan cafe in town – Peace & Bowl. Located in a beautiful open courtyard called Mercado 30, you can often find other healthy nomads here, making this their office of the day.
Expect to enjoy the best Acaí bowls in Playa del Carmen to help you power through your workday. If you visit before 11 am, you might be able to try their vegan muffins which are perfect for multi-tasking with your laptop.

If you like your morning coffee as strong as your WiFi, Bio & Natural is the place for you. Their restaurant/cafe has an outdoor and indoor area to sit down and manage your remote tasks from. They also have an organic & natural shop attached where you can find lots of great products. Make sure to reward yourself with their famous raw vegan cheesecake while you are here.

Fresco Hábito
Fresco Hábito is a great spot if you are craving a fresh smoothie bowl or juice to freshen you up while working. The WiFi is reliable and the atmosphere is inviting. It is an open-air restaurant with a lush interior and they even keep it fresh on a hot day with shade and lots of fans. Try their colorful beetroot Toast for a perfect kick-start in your workday.

Ah Cacao
Ah Cacao is a well-known Mexican coffee shop chain and there are at least 4 of them in Playa, so sooner or later you will bump into one. The most popular cafe for working remotely is on 5th Avenue between 38th and 40th Street. Due to the popularity, this is a great place for networking as well as conducting group meetings.
Unlike most of the cafes on this list, Ah Cacao doesn’t have multiple vegan options. Fortunately, their spinach tamales are a great choice while working on building your empire.
Location: 5th Avenue between 38th and 40th Street
Le P’tit Shoux
One of our new favorites to work from is Le P’tit Shoux, a cafe that just opened its doors in January 2021 and the little sibling of Choux choux cafe.
What do we love about this new spot? It has a nice jungle, more intimate feel to it and you can treat yourself with fresh coconut water and a vegan waffle with a handful of yummy fruits on top.
If you love the sun and working outside, this cafe is for you. Just keep in mind that it can get hot during the day and there is no AC – so come early or choose a seat in the shadow.
